Bailiff Major Felony Court Salary $35,853.00 - $53,276.00 Annually Location Community Justice Campus (CJC) - 675 Justice Way, IN Job Type Full Time Job Number 2002 Department Marion County Circuit and Superior Courts Opening Date 10/08/2024 Description Benefits Position Summary The Marion Superior Court (Indianapolis) is comprised of thirty-six courts across the Criminal, Civil and Family Divisions. Major felony courts regularly handle criminal cases such as murder, drug offenses, sex offenses, major domestic violence matters and various gun charges. A bailiff is needed to assist the judge with managing daily case dockets, as well as perform tasks related to motions practice and coordination with various criminal justice partners. This is NOT a security position. Position Responsibilities Perform as part of a five-person court staff with daily duties regarding case maintenance and general office operation. Assist during various court hearings, including limited remote hearings, bench and jury trials, which includes the management of juries. Conduct individual case updating on the court's case management system, which includes the daily processing of motions and orders, as well as other tasks as directed by judge. Coordinate with the county and state criminal justice partners on various inmate supervision, transport and release and issues. Serve as the alternate court reporter when the full-time court reporter is unavailable. Respond to inquiries via telephone and email, assisting with requests as needed. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications A minimum of a high school diploma or HSE is required. Proven typing and data entry skills are necessary. Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential, as is strong attention to detail. Ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of individuals. Knowledge and understanding of legal terminology and criminal procedures is preferred but not required. Salary is based on applicable experience. Employees work at 37.5-hour week. Full benefits are available. Bi-lingual skills in Spanish or Burmese beneficial, with a bi-lingual salary enhancement available. Educational enhancements for an Associate's or bachelor's degree are also available. Marion County residency required within six months of date of hire.
