ORGANIZATIONAL VISION
The Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance (TERA) is a cross-cultural, multi-organizational collaborative that works to revitalize ecology, economy, and culture through indigenous-led stewardship.Founded in 2019, the mission of TERA is to cultivate land stewardship, livelihood, and leadership skills that weave collaborative relationships between Tribal members and the community at large for the benefit of all lands and beings. Our program goals include:

  • Strengthen ties to land and culture;
  • Connect tribal members with meaningful livelihoods and culturally relevant work in their ancestral territories;
  • Regenerate local ecology of the North Coast Ranges, and improve resilience to fire; and
  • Build capacity for native voices to play a central role in land stewardship.

POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a detail-oriented, skillful Bookkeeper to join our team and support us in achieving our mission. In this role, you will work in close partnership with the Financial Manager and Administration Director. Primary responsibilities include documenting accounts receivable and accounts payable in various systems including Google Sheets, QuickBooks, and other organizational applications and softwares. Strong organizational skills and the utmost attention to detail are essential for managing receipts, payroll data, project budgets, and other financial records within a shared Google Drive system. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the integrity of financial records with careful data entry across various ledgers. Facilitates accounts payable and receivable activities.
  • Ensure timely payments and collections by carefully documenting cash receipts, credit card expenses, and payroll billing information.
  • Review and reconcile all accounts monthly to identify and resolve any discrepancies, ensuring financial accuracy.
  • Work with the Finance Manager to reconcile all accounts to provide monthly invoicing, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Participate in annual budget preparation.
  • Handle tax filings in accordance with TERA policies and procedures.
  • Verify new vendors against Federal and State exclusion lists, performing quarterly checks for all active vendors.
  • Assist the Financial Manager, Project/Program Managers, Administrative Director, or Executive Director with various financial accounting duties as needed.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-4 year degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field or relevant work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and non-profit accounting practices.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with QuickBooks Online (certification preferred); familiarity with additional accounting software a plus.
  • Proficiency and flexibility in using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other web-based applications and tools.
  • Patient, personable, and approachable with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse team and external partners.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to prioritize tasks, set and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, can prioritize effectively under pressure, and balances competing demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate and share information.
  • Ability to manage and disseminate information accurately and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within Tribes or Native-led organizations and/or individuals with intersectional identities;
  • Preference given to qualified Native Americans pursuant to the Indian Self Determination and Education Act, public Law 93-638.
