Schneider Electric is seeking a Chief Engineer for Battery Management Systems (BMS) & Battery Packs to join its Energy Storage Center of Excellence (CoE). Our CoE plays a pivotal role in driving the company's expansion by creating innovative energy storage products that are technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
As Chief Engineer, you will lead the successful launch of BMS and Battery Packs into mass production for UPS and Storage applications, ensuring that the designs adhere to stringent quality, reliability, performance, and safety standards. Additionally, you will provide technical support for battery-related matters to both internal and external stakeholders.
What You'll Do: - Translate application requirements into battery BMS and pack/rack/system requirements, covering electrical, mechanical, thermal, environmental, reliability, and compliance aspects.
- Review and evaluate battery supplier specifications, conduct technical design reviews, and lead battery platform FMEA, DFM, DFA reviews.
- Support global R&D teams in issue resolution and root cause analysis, and develop test plans and procedures as necessary for BMS and Battery Pack testing.
- Assist Lines of Business in System Level testing (UPS, Storage) of Battery Packs and facilitate successful adoption of battery platforms for end products.
- Provide support to global supply chain, quality, and manufacturing teams in supplier development, root cause analysis, corrective action, and alternate component qualification.
What Qualifications Will Make You Successful? - Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
- 10+ years of experience with batteries.
- 5+ years of experience with Lithium batteries (e.g., Lithium-Ion - NMC, LFP).
- Deep understanding of battery management system (BMS) and Battery Pack design.
- Experience with safety, compliance, and regulatory standards (UL1642, UL1973, UL9540, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. in engineering or science.
- Bilingual in English/Chinese.
- Understanding of different types of battery technologies, their performance, and characteristics.
- Experience in developing specifications and requirements for battery modules and packs/racks.
- Direct experience testing lithium battery cells, modules, and packs/racks.
- Battery product development experience, including cell qualification and UL certification.
- Experience in project planning and tracking, and working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members.
- Design for Six Sigma certification.
- Ability to travel 15-25% domestic and international.
- Excellent written and oral communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in analytic, strategic, and critical thinking, as well as outstanding collaborative and influencing abilities.
