About the City of Portland Traffic Operations division:
Our Transportation Systems Engineer and Traffic Operations team monitor,
evaluate, design, and construct the city\'s infrastructure. They oversee traffic regulations in the city and ensure projects conform to transportation systems and street design standards.We encourage you to learn more about our engineering projects, traffic
safety and traffic calming work, and our efforts to reach Vision Zero.Duties & Responsibilities:
Responds to work orders and requests via electronic devices and performs
the desired tasksOperates specialty tools and assists Traffic Signal Technicians on
highly skilled functions, such as programming variable message boards and radar speed unitsAssists the Traffic Sign Computer Operator in designing and preparing
traffic regulatory signsMay assist to design and produce signs and banners for the City of
Portland, including operating and maintaining all sign making equipment, preparing regulatory signs by computer and applying them to metal sign plates, preparing traffic sign work orders, and preparing invoices for signs that have been requestedPerforms winter operations as required
Required Skills & Experience:
Must have high school diploma, or equivalent
Experience using heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, loaders, and
bucket trucksKnowledge of and ability to operate winter equipment
Knowledge of pavement marking layout training, work zone safety
training, crosswalk paint machine training, sign installation training, or any equivalent combination of experience and relevant trainingMust have good visual acuity for driving
Must possess the physical strength, agility, and stamina to withstand
exposure to adverse climatic conditionsAbility to distinguish colors and patterns
Proven computer experience in the operation of graphics software and
ability to work with standard Microsoft office programsSpecial Requirements:
Must have valid Maine Class B drivers license
Must have and maintain a good driving record
Must pass federally-mandated drug test with Class B license
May be willing to hire an individual with Class C license as Maintenance
Worker I, with the expectation to obtain Class B licenseExpected Hours/Schedule:
Schedule is first shift, 6:30am-2:30pm, Monday thru Friday, with a paid
lunch break. Must be able to work other shifts as requiredApplications accepted until filled.

satisfactory criminal background checkSalary & Benefits:
This is a union position, Labor & Trades Grade 18, with a starting pay
rate of \$26.78/hour for candidates with a Class B license, based on qualifications and years of experience.A sign-on bonus up to \$2,500 available for qualified external
