As a CMA you will perform a variety of patient care duties including administering medication, reporting changes, collecting samples, and recording medication dosages administered. The facility has the right to pull your assignment as a CMA and have you work on the floor as a Nurse Aide at any given time.
The medication aide will be extremely detail-oriented and possess in-depth knowledge of patient care procedures. Providing excellent patient care is a vital part of this job, which is why excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver routine daily and PRN medications, either prescription or non-prescription, to Patients/Residents. Knowing in detail the 5 basic rights of medication administration Coordinate with different nurses and CNA’s in the assistance with patient care needs, and ADL’s when not administering medications
- Follow written or verbal instructions on how to manage, administer and store
- Record medication dosages, times and for PRN’s the effectiveness of the medication. Knowledge in the use of the facilities electronic medical record software for medication administration (EMAR/ETAR)
- Observe patients/residents and report changes to the Charge Nurse and document changes to give to the Charge Nurse, regarding in their condition.
- Gather samples for analysis
- Ensure equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned Uphold all health and safety standards
- Respond to patient emergency call signals, bells, or intercom systems to identify patient needs Keeping the medication cart stocked with supplies needed in the administration of medications and cleaning of the medication cart prior to use and at the end of your shift with facility recommended disinfectant
Requirements: - High school diploma or relevant qualification Must be a certified medication aide in Kansas
- A working knowledge of brand names and generic names of common medications administered in an LTC or acute care hospital and the knowledge of how to look up a medication for approved indications of use, dosages and potential side effects and adverse reactions
- Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good understanding medical and pharmacological terminology
- Willingness to flex to the facilities needs i.e. if they reassign you to work the floor as a CNA
