We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Advisory leader to join a client of ours within the finance and accounting advisory space.

Director, Accounting Advisory

Location: DC Metro region/ Northern VA office
Compensation: $175,000 - $200,000 + bonus

As a key member of this organization, you will provide strategic guidance and technical expertise in accounting principles and standards to a variety of clients within their portfolio. Your role will involve advising on complex accounting matters, ensuring compliance with regulations, and assisting in the implementation of accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of accounting practices.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing expert guidance and strategic advice to clients on complex finance and accounting issues
• Stay abreast of the latest accounting standards, regulations, and industry trends. Interpret and apply accounting standards such as GAAP regulations to specific client situations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their business needs, identifying opportunities for advisory services, and delivering high-quality solutions.
• Assist clients in the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
• Collaborate with clients to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures that align with their business objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Provide training and guidance to client teams on accounting principles, standards, and best practices to enhance their understanding and proficiency.
• Assess and mitigate risks associated with accounting and financial reporting processes. Identify control weaknesses and recommend improvements to enhance the overall control environment.
• Lead a team of accounting professionals, providing mentorship, coaching, and support to foster their professional growth and development.
• Contribute to thought leadership initiatives by publishing articles, delivering presentations, and participating in industry events to showcase expertise and drive brand recognition.

Qualifications should include:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or CMA or equivalent professional certification preferred
• Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting, auditing, or advisory services, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of US GAAP
• Proven track record of successfully advising privately held clients or company leaders on complex accounting issues and delivering high-quality solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide innovative insights.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and effectively lead and motivate teams.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to mentor and develop staff, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite.
