Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Indianapolis is a volunteer-supported non-profit that provides services to the unsheltered and individuals and families in need throughout Central and Southern Indiana. There are a number of volunteer opportunities across the SVdP Council that require excellent communication, coordination, and planning to support a positive volunteer experience. The Director is responsible for leading the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers, managing the volunteer coordinators, as well as the functionality of the volunteer database.
Key Responsibility #1: Organizational Leadership
Understand, implement, and effectively communicate the mission and strategic direction of SVdP
Actively participate as a member of the SVdP leadership team
Manage the Volunteer Coordinators at each major facility
Directly engage and empower volunteers to assume leadership roles within SVdP programs
Work collaboratively across all departments to identify available opportunities and needs for volunteers
Promote respectful, open, and trustworthy relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Oversee the review of departmental policies, procedures, and job descriptions
Supervise volunteer coordinators, providing coaching, direction, and feedback as needed
Key Responsibility #2: Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
Oversee and direct the volunteer recruitment strategy for St. Vincent de Paul’s programs including updating volunteer postings on all relevant platforms, website and marketing brochures
Attend volunteer recruitment fairs and events and provide support to St. Vincent de Paul conferences hosting service fairs
Engage with community organizations representing various cultural and ethnic populations served by St Vincent de Paul to promote volunteerism
Lead the volunteer recognition efforts during the annual Volunteer Appreciation week and throughout the year
Communicate volunteer updates across the organization on a regular basis
Key Responsibility #3: Volunteer and Staff Engagement
Be present on site at each facility multiple times per week to maintain accessibility to volunteers, receive feedback and build engagement
Directly communicate with, inform, inspire, and continuously acknowledge the important roles of each volunteer and direct report
Collaborate with all departments to support an organized, engaged, and rewarding experience for volunteers which allows them to participate in SVdP’s mission, ensuring a team atmosphere between SVdP staff and volunteers
Actively seek feedback and input from new and experienced volunteers and incorporate feedback into process improvement
Hold regular team meetings with the volunteer coordinators and other key individuals (ie. lead volunteers, and facility operations staff as needed), to strategize and provide support
Understand and actively engage in the various volunteer tasks at each facility in order to lend support as needed and to maintain familiarity with the volunteer tasks
Prepare the volunteer coordinators, lead volunteers, and operations staff with information about scheduled volunteer groups including the history of service and the intention motivating their volunteerism
Key Responsibility #4: Volunteer Database, Scheduling, and Reporting
Develop expertise with the Salesforce Volunteer Module and be an ambassador for its function and benefit
Serve as the primary administrator for the Salesforce Volunteer Module, maintaining volunteer campaigns, jobs, and recurring schedules
Oversee volunteer verification requirements and reporting as needed for external groups
Actively manage volunteer groups
Define, monitor, and update volunteer activities and roles within the Salesforce Volunteer Module
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Previous experience in volunteer management or nonprofit work is preferred
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Computer skills including cloud-based services
Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred
Proven leadership and supervisory skills
Valid IN driver’s license and auto insurance
