Position Overview:

As a Shelter Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in our Emergency Shelter Program, providing essential support and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for our guests. This role requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, mornings, evenings, and holidays. Reporting to the Emergency Shelter Site Lead, you'll need to demonstrate dependability, effective communication skills, and a respectful approach to working with diverse populations. Fluency in Spanish is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in implementing shelter activities with a focus on quality, guest-focused, trauma-informed service delivery.
• Engage with shelter guests to encourage progress towards stable housing.
• Support shelter setup, maintenance, and cleanliness, including trash disposal and spill cleanup.
• Receive and verify orders from vendors, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
• Update signs and service calendars to keep guests informed.
• Organize supplies and address facility needs promptly.
• Conduct neighborhood patrols to minimize community impact.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs may be required.

Administrative Support:

• Assist with daily summary sheets and maintain records for reporting purposes.

Additional Duties:

• Provide support for guest services and program activities as needed.
• Undertake special projects assigned by supervisors to enhance program effectiveness.

Qualifications:

• Strong empathy and understanding for individuals with urgent case management and health needs.
• Ability to perform crisis intervention and maintain a trauma-informed approach.
• Commitment to client-focused, housing-first principles.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
