SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Lead Informatics Analyst position is to serve as team lead
and subject matter expert for OPI/Clinical Operations Informatics projects. The Lead
Analyst conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis using comparative databases and
outcomes reporting, manages departmental projects, trains institutional users of clinical
data, and trains and supervises the work of subordinate staff. The Lead Informatics
Analyst may use internal and external reports to identify opportunities for improvement
in systems and in data management.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Technical Expertise and staff Training
• Train subordinate staff on the use of query
tools, report writing, and analysis of MDA patient populations
• Train and/or educate faculty and other institutional users of clinical and/or
organizational data through various tools such as Press Ganey, UHC, and Hyperion
• Identify required fields and establish a system to create files to transfer data to external
comparative databases
• Use knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and impact of medical services to
evaluate impact on mortality rates, length of stay information, and other types of
outcomes measures
• Demonstrate understanding and application of basic quality tools and software (such as
Statit, Minitab, SPSS, MS Project, MS Excel, and Visio.)
• Demonstrate application of quantitative and qualitative improvement tools
• Demonstrate ability to observe and document opportunities for process improvement
activities and quality engineering applications
• Demonstrate experience and ability to use report writing and business intelligence tools
such as Crystal Reports, SQL, MS Access, Hyperion, OBIE, Toad or other tools
Innovative Thinking
• Serve as lead analyst and manage departmental projects as
assigned
• Use structured database to create quality outcomes reports and communicate results
effectively to faculty and staff
• Understand risk methodology and be able to explain it effectively to others
• Act as a change agent for the organization and ensure that process improvement activity
is being communicated, understood, and supported within the organization
• Participate in the achievement of organizational directed department objectives
• Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in related field. Eight years of experience working with structured databases, programming, system analysis or related field to include two years as a project/program lead..
