Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Outpatient Facility Medical Coder to join our dynamic team remotely, with initial on-site training in Clackamas, OR. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in medical coding and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in coding practices and patient data management.
Key Responsibilities:
Coding & Documentation: Accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes to patient health records across various facility settings, including Emergency Departments, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and Inpatient records. Ensure that coding adheres to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS/CPT classification systems.
Quality Assurance: Review and verify that all coded data meets quality standards while adhering to government regulations and guidelines.
Compliance: Follow coding standards set by AHIMA, CMS, and other relevant organizations. Uphold ethical coding practices and maintain patient confidentiality.
Communication: Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and procedures. Clearly communicate coding requirements and updates.
Requirements:
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in facility coding is required. Experience within a Kaiser Apprentice program may be considered.
Education: High School Diploma or GED is required.
Certifications: One of the following certifications is mandatory:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Skills:
Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT coding, and medical terminology.
Proficiency in EMR systems and computer applications.
Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and manage a significant workload under pressure.
Fluency in English, both written and oral. Familiarity with CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding is a plus.

Training: Initial on-site training is required.
