Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and 5 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Biology, Entomology, Microbiology or a related discipline
Extensive experience in molecular biology, genetics, immunology, and parasitology
Previous experience in insect immunity and mosquito biology
Demonstrated experience in leading projects in a collaborative environment with a proven track-record of previous scientific publications in rigorous, high impact journals
Previous mentoring experience
Experience performing infection experiments under biological safety conditions

Job Description:

The Smith Lab in the Department of Plant Pathology, Entomology and Microbiology at Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa, USA) invites applications for a Research Scientist III position to study mosquito immune cell populations to better define their contributions to mosquito immune function and host-pathogen interactions. The candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing projects in the lab to examine mosquito immune cells and their influence in malaria parasite infection. The candidate will also have freedom to develop related projects according to his/her/their research interests. The candidate is expected to work closely with a diverse team of scientists, as well as additional collaborators, to achieve the desired project aims.

May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
Provides guidance to students
