Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Researcher to join our team at Think Company. 

Think Company operates in the United States as a fully remote company with limited potential travel unless otherwise noted. As such, please consider this a remote (work from home) position. Please note that Thinkers are expected to operate within Eastern Standard Time Zone business hours.

FLSA Status: Exempt
Annual Base Salary: $78,030 - $95,000

Think Company is looking for a Senior Design Researcher with experience in process and service mapping to join an established design and research team. As a member of this team, you will help understand and evolve existing processes, services and systems while also contributing to developing future strategic research and design decisions for our client’s line of work. 

You should have experience owning major design research initiatives, focused on both B2B and B2C processes. You should be able to leverage both qualitative and quantitative, generative, evaluative and benchmarking research tactics. You should also be able to assess research questions at hand, plan a path forward, and surface invaluable insights influencing next steps and key decisions—all while partnering with multi-disciplinary teams.

You should have a firm grounding in foundational design research principles, portfolio pieces demonstrating your ability to plan and execute research for processes, services, user experiences, and an innate interest in shaping our connected world.

What You'd Do

  • Conduct research to learn more about complex processes, systems and services within which our clients businesses operate around
  • Dig into user experiences within services, processes, digital products, in-store experiences and more
  • Execute research alongside process teams and digital product teams, in both agile and waterfall environments
  • Work closely with client teams to translate project goals to research goals and questions
  • Work cross-functionally with data analysts, designers, content strategists, technologists
  • Command a broad set of qualitative user-centered design research methods (e.g., ethnography, in-depth-interviews, feedback and testing, diary studies)
  • Capture quantitative data and perform simple analysis and synthesis of data gathered (e.g., surveys, unmoderated tests, usage analytics)
  • Facilitate research debriefs, brainstorming exercises, and other workshops that utilize design thinking approaches to fuel ideation and evaluate product design grounded in research findings
  • Dig into and map complex processes and services, identifying and communicating opportunities for digital intervention and process improvements
  • Communicate research insights and recommendations in compelling and creative ways with team members and senior management
  • Utilize design thinking approaches in service, process, and product design 

What You Bring

  • Portfolio of work demonstrating experience researching for complex processes, services and systems 
  • Examples of work showing comfort in the design research process and the ability to apply the methodology to understanding complex processes
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in the design research field, conducting discovery research in complex spaces
  • Uncommon attention to detail with a focus on efficiency
  • Track record of driving research work streams and deliverables
  • Strong ability to communicate research findings and opportunities to team members and clients in live presentations
  • Proficiency with tools and applications that enable and supplement research efforts in remote environments (usability testing, card sorts, surveys, first click tests, diary studies, etc.)

Bonus Points

  • Working knowledge of basic UX design and product design principles 
  • Working knowledge of service design execution 
  • Experience with data analytics and/or partnering with data analytics teams to understand processes and user experiences
