The Senior Project Manager manages critical, large, or complex projects through all cycles of the project lifecycle, performs administrative and organizational management duties to advise and assist ITS Senior Leadership in the development and deployment of technology projects and services as well as evaluating related methods, practices and procedures of these projects undertaken by ITS in support of the Brandeis community.

The Senior Project Manager will identify needed improvements, providing administrative and technical assistance and direction to accomplish these improvements. The Senior Project Manager will apply standard project management methodologies and work with diverse project teams from multiple functional areas to accomplish goals.

The ideal project manager for this position is highly skilled at multi-tasking with strong oral and written communication skills, adept at adjusting approaches based on stakeholder needs at all levels, and a strong problem-solver able to make timely and effective decisions. The position reports to the PMO Manager of ITS who will collaborate on facets of the project and deployments. As a member of the IT Planning & Operations group, the PM will collaborate and assist other members of the group as needed to help Brandeis achieve its technology-related goals.

Essential & Other Functions:

1. Project Management â“ Technology Consulting - 45%

Directs the multi-functional effort in liaising between relevant Brandeis constituencies for technology-centric projects. Identifies the organization's needs, and with the Brandeis project sponsor, determines the appropriate strategy and plan of action. Consulting may include:

â—‹ Provides expert counsel and leadership on both the technical strategy and potential risks.

â—‹ Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions.

â—‹ Manages client expectations and scope changes effectively. â—‹ Depending on the nature of the consulting engagement:

  • Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs, requirements, and budget.
  • Writes, reviews and edits requirements, specifications, processes and recommendations related to proposed solution.
  • Manages completion of functional specifications and design specifications.

â—‹ Ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.

â—‹ In partnership with the change management and communications teams, develop and execute communication plans in order to properly

engage all stakeholders. Prepares regular status communications to stakeholders of all levels.

2. Project Management â“ Technology Projects - 45%

Manages multiple technical projects within schedule and budget. Directs various multi-functional team members. Determine project priorities in collaboration with ITS leadership and following University governance protocol.

â—‹ Leads initiation, planning, execution and close out phases by enforcing consistent and appropriate project management standards.

â—‹ Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs, requirements, and budget.

â—‹ Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.

â—‹ Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a projectâ™s scope.

â—‹ Analyzes and manages project stakeholders effectively.

â—‹ Reviews deliverables prepared by team members.

â—‹ Minimizes exposure to and manages project risk.

â—‹ Ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.

â—‹ In partnership with the change management and communications teams, develop and execute communication plans in order to properly engage all stakeholders. Prepares regular status communications to stakeholders of all levels.

3. Project Management Office, Governance, and Service Delivery -10%

â—‹ Follows and contributes to the practices of the ITS Project Management Office (PMO) for governance oversight, project and portfolio management, and service delivery management.

â—‹ Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions.

â—‹ Continually defines ways to increase the communityâ™s satisfaction with ITS and to deepen relationships across the University.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelorâ™s degree required, Masterâ™s degree preferred

  • 7-10 years of total work-related experience required

  • Strong analytical skills for managing complex technology-centric opportunities and issues.

  • Ability to recommend process changes and manage large or complex projects as given.

  • Strong technical skills in a variety of applications and web tools.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to be an effective communicator with technical staff, Brandeis departments and faculty, and external entities.

  • Ability to work with various constituencies and facilitate collaboration between them.

  • Extensive experience required with complex technology systems, managing diverse and challenging multifunctional teams, bringing groups to a common understanding and delivering successful outcomes.
