Job Description:
We are looking for a proactive and self-motivated Life Insurance Underwriter to lead our automated underwriting and product governance functions. In this role, you will support our automated, instant-issue life insurance platform with three key responsibilities:
- Field Underwriting Support: Assist our customer support team with underwriting-related questions, provide guidance on agent training, and help develop informational materials.
- Post-Issue Audit Support: Review the underwriting performance of our engine and third-party data sources for our carrier clients.
- Underwriting Innovation: Continuously improve our underwriting model by refining rules, assessing new data sources, and analyzing their performance. This may also include desk underwriting of digital applications requiring additional review, including underwriting file and APS analysis.
You will collaborate closely with carrier clients, including Chief Underwriters, and engage with our agent field force. Internally, you'll work with our helpdesk team, data and analytics, and product department. Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills are essential.
Work Arrangement:

Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience as a Life Insurance Underwriter
- Experience with automated underwriting engines is preferred
- Familiarity with common underwriting data sources (e.g., Milliman Irex, LexisNexis Risk Score, MVR, LabPiQ, Sherlock, MIB)
- Experience in product development and field underwriting support is highly desirable
- Passion for underwriting innovation, including improving/developing underwriting manuals and updating rules
- Strong knowledge of the life insurance industry, business processes, and products
- Self-starter with a passion for creating exceptional products
- Hands-on approach to tasks, both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to think critically and find solutions with limited guidance
- Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
