Job Description
As a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), you will be responsible for planning and delivering speech and language therapy to a diverse group of students at multiple educational and therapeutic programs. You will play a vital role as part of a team dedicated to ensuring students reach their fullest potential, helping them develop effective communication skills. By working collaboratively with teachers, staff, and other professionals, you will assist in the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), providing therapy sessions both in and out of the classroom setting.
What You'll Do:
Provide Therapy: Conduct speech and language therapy sessions, either individually or in small groups, as outlined in students' IEPs. You will work both in the classroom and outside of it to support students in developing key communication skills.
IEP Collaboration: Actively participate in IEP meetings, providing input and recommendations for speech and language goals. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining IEP goals and presenting them clearly in meetings to ensure all team members are aligned.
Ensure Compliance: Monitor and ensure that all speech and language therapy service minutes are met in accordance with IEP requirements for each student on your caseload.
Support Communication Tools: Order, create, and maintain Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, ensuring they are functional and accessible. You will also train teachers and staff on how to effectively use AAC devices in various settings to support student communication.
Create Assistive Materials: Design and develop visuals and other assistive devices or tools to support students' educational and residential needs.
Conduct Evaluations: Perform formal and informal speech and language evaluations, as needed, in collaboration with the IEP team to assess students' progress and adjust therapy plans accordingly.
What You'll Bring:
A Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), or you must be in your Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
Illinois State License as a Speech-Language Pathologist upon hire.
Illinois Professional Educator's License with a Speech Language Pathology endorsement.
