Job Description

Operates cargo-type, van, or box trucks (non CDL) in accordance with an assignment schedule prepared by the Manager or Supervisor.  Reports to the Supervisor of Materials Control (or to a designated individual in the Supervisor?s absence).

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates vehicles in accordance with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) Fleet Safety Program Policies and Procedures, as well as in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Reports any damage or inoperative equipment to Supervisor or designee immediately. Reports vehicular accidents according to department policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining schedules, inspection stickers which requires - rental of replacement vehicles.
  • Responsible for refueling and fluid replenishment for vehicles using the department p-card.
  • Maintains the interior vehicle while the vehicle is under operator?s control.
  • Maintains an accurate log, documenting numbers of trips completed, items delivered and other pertinent information.
  • Utilizes the department cell phone system to accept and complete tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

When operating cargo-type vehicles (including, but not limited to, delivery vans and trucks):

  • Transports, picks-up/delivers goods and materials to various DFCI sites using vehicles leased or rented by the Materials Control Department.
  • Responds to STAT or on demand requests. Picks-up/delivers materials, packages, specimens, etc. to locations throughout the DFCI network.
  • Responsible for the safety and integrity of all cargo while in his/her possession.
  • Delivers packages, computers, specimens coolers, perishables and time sensitive goods, pallets, crates, furniture, cartons, bags, carts, and other cargo to designated sites in a safe and timely fashion.
  • Maintains schedule and adheres to established routes.
  • Uses discretion to deviate from prescribed routes when environmental conditions and/or special events create traffic congestion (with consultation from External Transportation Dispatch).
  • May also be required to transport light cargo, radiology films, medical records, specimens, and other small items between sites when operating a passenger vehicle equipped to carry these items.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current valid Massachusetts Class D license required.
  • Clean driving record with Registry of Motor Vehicles required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work as a team member.
